Delay fully-loaded smartphones and social media for kids.
Bring back a play-based childhood.
Why Delay?
Many children are spending between 3-7 hours (or more!) online a DAY! When “everybody” is online, it’s hard for a parent to say “no” or “not yet”. Through a collective action commitment made by Madison, NJ parents, we can protect our kids TOGETHER. If we all take an ACTIVE and THOUGHTFUL approach to introducing smart devices and social media in our homes, delaying isn’t so hard. Then our kids can do what kids are supposed to do - play, explore, create, and just be kids!
Safer choices for our kids when at home:
Phones and watches that do not provide unfettered access to internet and social media
Delayed access to social media
Delayed unfettered access to the internet
Delayed access to fully-loaded smartphones
Safer choices for our kids when at school:
“Phone away for the day” policies from arrival to dismissal
Intentional use of technology in Madison Public Schools- kids on screens to enrich their learning
Promote learning and interacting without screens during the school day
